Lynxs Announces New Cargo Facilities in Calgary
Calgary, Canada, [March 24, 2009] – Lynxs Group LLC, a global air cargo facilities development company, and The Calgary Airport Authority (the Authority) have signed an Interim Agreement for Lynxs to be the exclusive developer of air cargo facilities at YYC’s new Deerfoot North Tradepark development.
The Interim Agreement also marks the official closure of the competitive tender for the air cargo development rights, which encompasses approximately 25 acres of the total 280 acres of land at Deerfoot North Tradepark. Lynxs, in close cooperation with the Authority and other commercial developers at Deerfoot North Tradepark, is planning to start construction on the first phase of the air cargo development in the fall of 2010. The Lynxs air cargo development will have direct airside access and a dedicated aircraft ramp area, the initial phase will be approximately 120,000 square feet of modern air cargo facilities. The entire Deerfoot North site can accommodate up to approximately 400,000 square feet of facilities. Lynxs plans to design and develop the air cargo project with sustainable design features. “These days we don’t develop anything unless it incorporates all relevant sustainable components to reduce the impact on the environment, while enhancing the operational efficiency for our tenants at our facilities,” said Lynxs Group President and CEO Raymond Brimble.
“The prime location of the Deerfoot North Tradepark will offer excellent roadway access for tenants and in addition, we feel the clustering of air cargo, distribution and logistics and commercial uses in this development will create synergies and promote trade and commerce at the airport,” said Stephan Poirier, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Calgary Airport Authority.
Despite turbulent times in the air cargo sector due to the worldwide slowdown in trade, the Authority and Lynxs are optimistic about the long-term prospects of the greater Calgary region. “Besides a vibrant business community, Calgary has unique geographical characteristics that make it an ideal logistics hub. Further, the Authority has a very proactive and commercially savvy airport management team and all those factors combined make the business case for this air cargo development very compelling and something we want to be part of,” said Brimble.
